Hardcore Is Forever.

“Hardcore For Hardcore” a true saying with even more of a meaning

I received this article from one of my closest friends last night, as i read it i thought this was perfect and that i should share this with all of you. Enjoy!

“GIVE BACK”
AN ARTICLE TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR HARDCORE SCENE

If you are one the few and the proud of todays hardcore scene, congratulations. You not only have something to be proud of, but something positive to look forward to every day. For many people, their local scene is thriving. But for others, hardcore is something slowly drifting away and becoming very difficult to find out about. Here are some ideas to improve your local scene, if you are unhappy with it.

Have an open mind to new people. Introduce others to this music, they might really enjoy it. Excluding people from the hardcore scene based upon pre-conceived judgement is the quickest way to ensure that there will be less people there to fall in love with hardcore. Many people don’t know the purpose of this lifestyle, so show them the real purpose behind it.

Support local bands. Local bands are the core of your scene. Without them, touring bands would have a much more difficult time gaining exposure. If there are no touring bands, then what kind of a scene would you have?

Book shows for local and touring bands and pay them. This is a fun way to give back to your scene, as well creating a fun, positive environment for the people involved with hardcore.

Give back to your scene anyway that you can. Whether it be playing in a band, documenting your scene with pictures or videos, creating a zine, selling items like food or water with profits going towards shows or charity or at least showing up to shows. Without fans of hardcore, your scene will not function.

Learn something. Because of all of the different views in hardcore, there is much to learn about your self, and the world that you live in. This music can be of assistance with many of life’s lessons.

Do something positive for your community. “Giving back” should not only be directed towards hardcore, but also for the place that you live. Benefit shows are a great way to expand the ideas and views in hardcore as well as helping a good cause.

Thanks so much for reading. Hopefully someone, somewhere will benefit from this.

Interview with Grubby, G and Erik of No Zodiac

1.What do you do in No Zodiac?

I’m Grubby and I play bass, my name is G and I do vocals and my name is Erik, i play drums in No Zodiac

2.Why the name No Zodiac?

When we first got together we felt like the outsiders, part of the kids on the sidelines the ones who had nothing to prove because no one had payed attention or cared to listen to our voice. The name No Zodiac means that you don’t exist,
everyone always talks about your zodiac sign when they ask when you were born
so by us calling the band No Zodiac we mean that we don’t exist. What does exist is the music and the message behind the music.- G

3.Is No Zodiac an anti religous band?

Anti Organized religion Yes..God Free NO.. some of us have deep spiritual roots some of us believe in Jesus Christ wile some of us are atheist. - G

We’re not an anti religious band. We all have different views on religion but that is never an issue. - Grubby

This question is actually brought up a lot with us. - Erik

4.What influences your dark sound?

Definitely being miserable practicing in indiana. - Erik

METAL.haha there are many bands that influence our sound. From metal to hard core we love it all. From Morbid Angel and Brujeria to Disembodied and Strife.
We love all kinds of heavy music and try to do our best to keep our heavy dark style.- G

5.You guys just released an EP Called “Burn In Hell” what made you think
of this title for the EP? And what does this Ep mean to all of you?

The lyrics of this EP are about the scum that thrive in society and our hatred towards this scum. The title is self explanatory . All of these power hungry, money hungry filth need to burn in hell. - Erik

At the time I was pissed at many aspects of society. I have always felt this deep hatred for humanity and the shit that we do. We are a sickness that pains our earth and we all need to take a moment to evaluate our ways, some of us have no hope and should just give up and literally burn in hell. This EP dealt with many aspects of life from racism, depression and hatred to depression and my personal struggles with day to day life.

6.Whats your goal with the band?

Goal as a band for me, keep playing the music I love, hopefully go on tour sometime this year. Try to play as many shows as possible. - Grubby

Our goal was never to get big or make a living of this.we played music because we love doing it. We wanted to play music for kids that like heavy music, for our friends and for anyone that would give us a shot. - G

Personally my goal with the band is to have as much fun as i can and spread the word of hardcore to people all over the world,  and that it’s ok to play in a heavy band. Not all hardcore these days has to sound the same. Heavy hardcore has always been sort of the outsider and more underground sub-genre of hardcore and i wish there was more of it. - Erik

7.you guys recently signed to Seventh Dagger, how did this come about?

It started a few month back when i was contacted by Danny Trudell the owner of Seventh Dagger records. He told us that he was interested in working with us and it we just took it from there. - G

Seventh dagger had been posting our videos of our songs online and the talks started from there.  G handles alot of the business aspects of the band. - Grubby

They had been posting stuff about us online and our vocalist got and in contact with the label and they said they said they were interested in working with us. Simple as that. - Erik

8.How has it been bring on the label?

Being on seventh dagger has been great so far. We’ve got some new merch designs coming as well as our debut full length coming in the spring. - Grubby

It’s been great, no complaints. We’ve became friends with soo many new bands, and developed a great new fan base. - Erik

9.Besides the latest EP what things can people look forward to from you guys in 2012?

People can look forward to our new album “population control” as well as talks of doing a short little limited release promo which will contain a new song and a special cover. New merch designs from our favorite classic horror films too.
They can also look forward to us playing more out of state shows so those kids get a chance to see us. - Grubby

We are working hard on this full length that should be out in March it will be called Population Control. We are happy how things are coming along. - G

Our Full Length “Population Control” will be put out on Seventh Dagger. Also we plan to hopefully do a tour or two this summer. Obviously locals too. - Erik

10.What got you all into hardcore?

I got into hardcore through new found glory and the deftones. So basically shai hulud was on of the first because Chad from NFG was the singer at the time and the deftones had a song with strife and it went on from there. Downloading music back in 1997/1998 was alot harder compared to now. So I would always buy an album and look at the thank you section of the slip booklet from the cd, check out those bands they thanked. Checking old labels like victory and trustkill back in the early 2000’s was a big part of it too. - Grubby

What got me into hardcore was this 3 song demo i picked up in 2003 from a local record store. I was 13 at the time. No clue about hardcore or anything like it. This was the Sworn Enemy 3 song demo of As Real as it Gets.  I remember listening to it and trying to figure out what it was. About two years later in my freshman year of high school i went to my first show and ive been hooked since. - Erik

11.What do you like about the scene? (if anything) why?

UNITY…our scene in Chicago is getting bigger. We are becoming one and i cant wait to see where we go from here. No more divisions, no more egos, no more fashion over passion. Its our time to shine. Its our time to show the world that hardcore has integrity, it has values and that in Chicago… Hardcore lives!! - G

I enjoy our scene alot because of the unity we have. We can get a really good turnout for an all local show in a basement. Lots of DIY going on. Chicago is one of the strongest scenes I’ve seen ever. It’s only going to get better from now. - Grubby

In the scene right now i love seeing this new generation of kids that are starting to appear, and all of these new bands that are coming out. Chicago’s hardcore scene is alive and one of the best scenes in hardcore right now. - Erik

12.What are the plans for No Zodiac this year?

Touring, Touring, Touring, Touring…and more music - G

Our plans for this year. Put out our album, tour, tour, tour (schedules pending of course) - Grubby

Interview with Rockin of No Regrets.

Whats your name and what do you do in No Regrets?

My name is Rockin Rivera and I am the vocalist of No Regrets.

Why the name No Regrets?

The name says it all. We have No Regrets. We feel thats how people should live.
People make mistakes, but you would need to move on and not dwell on it.

You have a new demo out called “Dead Life”what was different between writing for this release and your previous release?

Progress progress progress. Thats what this band is all about.
We tried new things. We jus got creative with it. And most of all had fun.

Why did you call your latest demo “Dead Life”?

We named it Dead Life from the track on the CD.
Basically those who dont do anything for themselves and listen to the media or the outside world that are just trying to get you to live by their rules are already living a dead life.

What do you talk about in your songs?

Most of my lyrics just come from the bullshit that goes on in life from, having trouble sleeping because of stress (Sleepless nights).
To the way I look at my father (Bloodline).

Whats the goal for No Regrets?

The goals for No Regrets is to have as much fun as possible while doing the one thing that means the most to us and thats play shows and support our scene.
Also to play as many shows in as many states as possible.

What advice would you give kids to have them start coming to shows?

If you feel like you dont belong with others come to a show and feel the music, feel the passion that happens at shows.
Then you will find where you fit in. Where you belong.

Whatre your outlooks on the scene as a whole?

The scene at this current moment is booming.
Theres so many good up and comming bands as well as old bands doing reunions.

What should be changed (if anything)?

The fighting needs to stop at shows. Thats how venues get shut down.
And without venues where do you put on shows.
Without shows what scene do you have?

Whatre you doing to fix it?

During shows I will announce there is to be no fighting.
I will personally get into the scuffle to break it up.

You just released “Dead Life” not to long ago whats next for No Regrets?

Right now we are writing for 2 up and comming splits we are to release this late winter early spring.

Whos your favorite band out right now? and why?

Right now The Story So Far. Because there lyrics have just related to me so much lately.

Who’s your favorite band(s) of all time? If you cant choose one list 3.
1. Death Threat.
2. Terror.
3. Death Before Dishonor.

Besides Hardcore what other types of music do you enjoy?

I listen to pretty much everything from Country to Hip Hop.

Any last words/ Shoutouts?

Do what you can to keep your scene alive. Shoutouts my boys in my band, because without them I wouldnt be where I am today.
And all my BTL brothers for helping me keep my scene strong.
